Dr. Joel C. Hunter Legacy Award

Dr. Joel C. Hunter received the first “Dr. Joel C. Hunter Legacy Award”, honoring his endless efforts for many years to end homelessness and suffering in the Central Florida region.  The Dr. Joel C. Hunter Legacy Award will be offered annually to significant leaders who have impacted the efforts to end homelessness.  

The award was presented to Dr. Hunter by Dave’s House on October 7th at an event at Orlando’s Museum of Art. Dave’s House is a charity that works to end homelessness for men and women with serious mental illness.

By combining low-barrier affordable housing, ongoing mental healthcare, and supportive services, Dave’s House provides stable homes for their residents with serious mental illnesses.

Dave’s House serves not only homeless adults with serious mental illness (SMI) but also those who are chronically homeless; at risk of being homeless; in sub-standard housing; and caretakers seeking independent living for loved ones with SMI.
